How often do you read the Bible? At one of our monthly prayer meetings recently Pastor Andrew quoted a study that talked about the benefits of reading the Bible just four days a week. The study, which surveyed 40,000 people ages 8 to 80, found that people who read the Bible one or two days a week didn't experience many results, with a slight bump among those who read three days a week, and a tremendous explosion of results among those who read four days a week. Among those who read at least four days a week, the results were that:

  1. Feeling lonely drops 30%
  2. Anger issues drop 32%
  3. Bitterness in relationships drops 40%
  4. Alcoholism drops 57%
  5. Sex outside of marriage drops 68%
  6. Feeling spiritually stagnant drops 60%
  7. Viewing pornography drops 61%
  8. Sharing your faith jumps 200%
  9. Discipling others jumps 230%

So, will you commit to strive to read at least four days a week in the coming year?

Each year a number of Christian ministries and websites will post a list of Bible reading plans for believers to choose from as they attempt to read more of God's Word in the coming year. Here is the list that Ligonier Ministries posted for 2024. I'm particularly interested in trying the Bible Reading Plan Generator from the list.
